Free YouTube transcript generator with timestamps, TXT/SRT export and AI summary
TranscriptYou is a browser-based tool for reading YouTube videos as text. A user pastes a watch link, a short link, a Shorts URL or an embed code, and the tool loads the caption track the video already has. Each line of the transcript keeps its timestamp, and a switch removes the time codes when plain running text is needed.
The language menu lists every caption track attached to the video, including tracks auto-generated by YouTube, which are marked separately because names and technical terms in them are less reliable. The text can be copied in one click or downloaded as a .txt file or an .srt subtitle file.
A separate summary page uses AI to produce key points above the transcript, which helps with long lectures, interviews and podcasts. Every processed video gets its own page with a stable link, so the same transcript can be shared. The tool runs on desktop and mobile browsers, requires no extension or account, and is free to use.
It does not run its own speech recognition, so the transcript matches the captions viewers actually see on YouTube, and creator-uploaded tracks are kept apart from auto-generated ones. Unlike browser extensions it needs no install and no login, and every transcript gets its own shareable link that reopens the same text for another person. The AI summary sits on top of the original transcript, so key points can be checked against the exact timestamped line.
